The Upson-Lee varsity baseball team scored early and often, overwhelming the opposition Whitewater Wildcats 10-5 at home last night.
The positive atmosphere under the lights at Silvertown Ballpark was led by seniors Carson Lawson and Brooks Gulley. Their dugout antics encouraged hitters to reach base safely 19 times through 6 innings. Junior shortstop Jordan Wainwright led the onslaught with 3 base hits and 2 runs scored, bringing his totals on the year to .373 Avg. and 17 runs scored. First baseman Logan Spivey reached base safely in all 4 plate appearances, going 2-2 with 2 walks, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. The senior leads the Knights with a .435 Avg and 19 RBI for the season.
Another senior, Jeremiah Hill, got his first pitching start of 2021 and dazzled spectators with a commanding cutter. He struck out an impressive 7 Cats during his 4 innings of work to earn the win and improve his ERA to 1.17 for the season.
