Upson-Lee’s pitching ace Jake Willis was stingy, allowing just 1 run (0 ER) and 2 hits in a complete game 2-1 win over Crisp Co. in Cordele last night. The senior reached down deep and grunted audibly as he recorded his 12th strikeout of the evening in the bottom of the seventh frame to preserve the victory.
Willis received his run support in the top of the sixth inning as Steven Marriage was hit by a pitch and Jordan Wainwright subsequently doubled, scoring a speedy Marriage from first base. With two outs, second baseman Austin Hendricks laced a base hit to centerfield, scoring Wainwright in what proved to be the winning run.
The Diamond Knights improve their record to 14-9 (9-4 in region 2 AAA) as they prepare to host Crisp Co. on Thursday in Thomaston. Official game time is 5:55. This will likely be the last home game for our 2021 team, which consists of 9 seniors. Come out and pack the bleachers of Historic Silvertown Ballpark!
