The Upson Lee Knights boys’ tennis team won an amazing come from behind victory over Appling County in yesterday’s Sweet 16 round. Down 2 matches to none the Knights were one match away from elimination. Jed Weatherford and Grayson Sheppard were down one set and down 0-4 in the second set, 2 games from that 3rd and deciding loss. They would then run off a 6-game win streak to tie their match at a set a piece. They would continue that momentum into the 3rd set winning it and changing the tide of the match. As the momentum was changing in their match Tanner Wilson won his match in straight sets. Wilson was impressive in his win playing his best tennis of the year. Tied at 2 matches a piece the deciding match would be in the hands of senior John Hernandez. Hernandez played a much different style than normal for him in this match going for consistency and placement over power. It proved to be an effective strategy as he outlasted his opponent 7-5, 7-5 giving the Knights the win and moving them into the Elite 8. The Knights will travel to Oconee County on Tuesday to play their 3rd round at 4:00pm. The team would like to thank everyone that came out and showed their support at the match. It was an awesome showing of support!!
